HOW HAS YOUR BACKGROUND AFFECTED YOUR LIFE/ WORK?
I'm inspired by my context - growing up with an eye for hypersymbolic cognition, among other things. It started with my grandmother's Christianity - which I rejected shortly after grounding myself in AfroCaribbean folk religion. I aspire to create and rearrange stories/histories in a way that honors the tradition of oral story telling and the scriptures I read and continue to cite.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU (UPCOMING PROJECTS)?
Currently, I'm investigating a practice of self-excavation that attempts to undo years of self-evaluation. If I were to dig into myself for artifacts that prove that I exist - what would that look like. I take found objects and/or poems and crystalize them using a borax solution. I've started on a book of Italian postcards from the 40s. I'm writing one sided letters from a child to a mother.
